2020 and the reading challenges that I signed up

Happy new year 2020 y’all. I am not sure if it is still cool to talk about “New Year, New me” but I am always excited for a chance to start new. Yes, I am that kid that would try to buy entire set of stationery after every summer break. Of course, never worked, thanks to my desi parents.

Coming back to the topic, I get too excited for each new year and make elaborate plans. The planning process may start well in advance, say in October sometimes.

Happy New year 2020 ya'll. What are the reading challenges that I might be missing out on? Let us talk about challenges I am signing up for in 2020. Click To Tweet

Remember how started last year with such a big bang and then after July life happened and all my plans and schedules went to a toss? Oh I will post an update on those goals soon, just for the laughs.

Well, I learnt nothing from that. I am gonna make another try now. If you had any doubts, I am definitely go big or go home kinda girl.

Goodreads Reading Challenge 2020

Last year I chose 45 books to read for my Goodreads Reading Challenge and I read 53 books. I am gonna try and do the same this year as well.

Target: 45

2020 A To Z Reading Challenge

I loved doing the 2020 A to Z reading Challenge by Ginger Mom and company over the past two years. And I am more than excited to join the fun again. I am planning to join the mini challenges as well.

Target: 26 books – one for each alphabet and as many mini-challenges as possible.

South Asian Reading challenge

I recently found out I am not reading as many desi and South Asian books as I should be and I want to change that. And later I found Fanna from Fannatality is organizing a challenge just for that.

So yes, I am a big deal of it and gonna try read as much as I can.

Reading more Classics

I read some classics for the first time ever in 2019 and I can’t believe I have never read them earlier. So I am gonna continue to do them in 2020 as well.

I will follow the ones recommended by the following for my reading choices.

Read and review more Indies

Don’t you love finding out an amazing book to love, especially one that not many of your friends know, just so you can hound them so that they would read it? No? Sorry, maybe it is just me.

That is why I love this challenge. I am going to read as many indie novels as I can – as a beta reader and a reviewer.

Also,  if you are an indie author, consider writing a guest post for Elgee Writes.

    Good luck!

Last year I told myself I wasn’t going to sign up for any reading challenges, and then I did… And failed miserably thanks to mostly health concerns, and the forgetfulness that comes along with it. This year I said the same think, and so far stuck to it.

Reading for pleasure is always better, as long as it works. I tend to get into a reading slump if I don’t have a push like this!

    Hallo, Hallo Gayathri,

This is why I started to take stock of what I really felt motivated to read this year myself – part of that was anchoured to the fact I have a serious backlogue! which needs addressing and part of that is because I wanted to switch things up quite a bit this New Year; by how I read, what I’m in the mood to read and how to find the balance I was seeking. Two personal challenges have all but stalled out on my blog too – which are Classics & INSPY Lit. (top menu, under challenges you’ll find the pages!)

Thus, when I went to assemble this post (for 2020 Challenges) I went a whole new way by focusing on Book Bingo Cards and having a bit of randomness affect my readerly life this year!!

I also found a ton! of Classics (in audiobook) avail via Spotfiy (who knew?) and Scribd which is going to make my pursuit of the Classics a bit easier as I was surprised how few my libraries have in OverDrive. Some have a few I want to hear but others not as much. I also have a few in print on my own shelves I want to either a) finish (ie. Jane Eyre) or b) need to begin (ie. 3x Jane Austen!)

For the INSPY side of the Lit adventure, that’s still more clued into what I’m in the mood to be reading but I have several on my shelves and to be honest, I want to actively start reading stories from Love Inspired Suspense with Mum again as I haven’t really accomplished that pursuit in 2x years except during July! (ooh dear,..)

Like the idea of focusing on Children’s Classics – I have a section dedicated to that on my Classics Club Challenge page!

I also love a wicked good story set in Asia, either by Asian authors or by others who write Asian stories.

I hope you’ll have a bookishly delightful and inspiring 2020 readerly adventure! Top cheers!

PS: Thanks for visiting with me recently,.. I am attempting to get back into the rhythm of visiting now that I’m migraine-free for January. Little steps..

Happy New Year Gayathri! One of my goals is to read more indie published books as well! I received a bunch for Christmas and I can’t wait to start reading. I wish you the best with your reading goals this year!

Which classics are you going to read? I’m looking at some of my old ones from my university days and will be re-reading them. Also the Anne of Green Gable series. It’s been a long time since I last read it!

Oh I read that one fairly late – as an adult, actually.

I am doing GR and the same AtoZ as you. Yeah! We can peek at each others list for those hard letters (I’m looking at you Q, X, Z). Good luck with all your goals!
