The one about gardening failures: Sunday Musings #132

I lamented here a long while ago about how I have the opposite of the green finger. For a long time (years even), I was not even capable of growing a plant or even help a full grown survive a few days.

But that changed last year and I grew some bell peppers indoor. Now when we moved earlier this year to an apartment with balconies that got abundant sunshine, the peppers thrived. And we harvested more than 15 small-ish yellow bell peppers from two plants.

Well, all good things have to come to an end, right?

Thanks to the heat and humidity of Dubai’s summer (which has just started, mind you), my plants are scalded and now infested with some whiteflies. I have tried hosing them off with mild soap water. I found them just last Sunday, and within a week most of my leaves are shrunk and falling down. And the peppers have stopped growing as well.

From what I read online, there is no more saving them. So I guess that is it for this year’s contaner gardening. But at least I didn’t kill them this time, and this won’t be the last of my attempts with plants.

What I read this week

I read Love in Colour: Mythical Tales from Around the World, Retold by Bolu Babalola this week. It was a different genre for me and it took me a while to get used to.

Nevertheless, I enjoyed it.

What I watched this week

I watched “Chemical Hearts” on Prime this week. I also watched a couple of episodes of “Two and a Half men”. Talk about a poorly aged show, right?

  1. You are doing better than I as far as gardening goes. I have the opposite of a green thumb too, so I no longer even try. At least you’re trying. Good for you!

I watched Two and A Half Men years ago. I liked it, but not so much anymore.

Hope you have a great week!

  2. I haven’t done very well with gardening! I even had the perfect house, with lots of windows, back in the 70s when everyone had hanging plants. I lost most of them, one by one.

We did have an outdoor garden, and grew lots of tomatoes and zucchini. That was fun. LOL All of our meals included zucchini and tomatoes and some other ingredients.

    Good luck in the future!

Enjoy those books, and Two and a Half Men was definitely a regular show for us…but I liked the latest version of it better, with Ashton Kutcher.

    Have a great week.

  3. I’m not a gardener. I don’t have the space, know-how, or desire, lol. Plus, my cats always eat any plants we have in the house so we havel

  4. Aw that’s a shame about the plants. High heat can be brutal. And yes some shows do NOT age well lol.

Hope you are having a nice weekend!

  5. The heat is crazy here too. My plants seem to be okay for now. I’ve been watering them early mornings and right before dark. I wish the weeds would stop thriving though. LOL

  6. I’m so sorry about your pepper plants! I hate white flies with a passion and they’re such a pain to get rid of. The only time I had any luck was when I started spraying all my plants down every day with soapy water but that isn’t always feasible. I never really watched Two and a Half Men but I can see it not aging well. I just rewatched Friends and have mixed feelings about how it aged. It some ways it really didn’t but they also tackled some really tough topics really well. Have a wonderful week!
