Do I Obsess Over Page Views?

I am participating for the first time in the Book Blogger Hop hosted by  Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer.

Each week a fellow blogger asks a question and the participants make a post answering the question. The goal is to make new friends and know more about the bloggers who are participating. So let us get with it shall we?

Question of the week

This week’s question was submitted by Elizabeth @ Silver’s Reviews and she asks

Do you sneak a peek at the number of views your posts have gotten?

Do I obsess over page views?

YES, while I don’t obsess over the numbers, I do check my page views at least once a week.

As the data and spreadsheet obsessed nerd that I am, I even note the weekly views and have plotted a graph out of it. And the graph looks good curve these days, you guys. Thanks to all your comments and shares.

How do I track my page views?

To be honest I am not an expert by any chance on Google Analytics, I use it to check the performance of the posts and understand the demographics.

Another statistics I kinda check weekly is my Alexa rank. Again I have no idea why I even follow that, except that I do.

So what other blog related data do you guys follow? And if you have had figured what to do with these data, please let me know. Something good might turn out of being a nerd even. Let us chat.

I check my pageviews every day… I like knowing what post is doing goo… And whenever any post views decrease, I update the post, and it again starts getting views…
I also like to know what page is people leaving fast…

Honestly, I don’t think that I have ever checked my stats unless I have to send my stats in email or signing up for anything like blog tour etc. But now, I am thinking that probably I should? I am not sure, let’s see. I guess it would be like some tension for me checking and being obsessive with the numbers šŸ™

I don’t obsess over my blog stats but I do check them at least a couple of times a week. It helps give me an idea of the type of content that is most popular, and to see what marketing strategies are pulling most traffic to my site.

You have more restraint than me lol. I tend to check mine usually every day. I could never get Google Analytics to work for me and it’s so confusing, so I just stick to WordPress stats. I’ve never heard of the Alexa rank but now I want to check that out too lol.

Alexa rank is totally weird for me and I won’t pretend that I understand how it works either.

I canā€™t help but to check my statistics. Maybe it the anxiety and OCD. But it is very warding to see constant growth – whether it is my blog, my YT channel, Twitter, or even Instagram. It helps me to know that at least I am heading in the right direction.

I totally get that. I am not obsessed with the numbers as well, but I still check it out for the growth map, weekly once.

i tend to look at mine before i go to bed each day and just see how the days gone and i can usually see which days ive bothered to have tweets scheduled and which days ive done some blog hopping. im also somehow on a monthly page view upwards curve since july now and im really excited by it but also scared because i know this month is gonna drop as im goign away for 2 weeks…

While we don’t have google analytics on free wordpress, I am very guilty of that too… Though I do not have OCD, I have anxiety, and as thoses are parents I have a “ocd side” where I need to check everything more than once .. posts Ive planned to make sure im good, views/like/comment graph, the spam folder of comments, notifications.. and I do so multiple times a day. even if I already JUST checked xD

idk, I just like to know people come and visit my blog; and where they stumble on when they do. Sure id feel a little sad on days I had no or few reactons but, not that big of a deal either.

I obsess over them too, even though I donā€™t get very many. Itā€™s interesting for me to see which social media platforms work best for me and which posts were popular. I use Google Analytics and Jetpack through WordPress!

Ha! I hadn’t checked my page views in ages but did once I saw the title of your post. I guess my take on it all is that it is what it is. I barely have time to get posts up and promoted, much less actively grow my blog. I enjoyed this post and the comments. Thanks!

Good answers. I like to see that the people I am supporting are supportive of me in return but that is as far as the looking goes. As a relatively new blogger, I also look at followers and hits as it gives me an idea of whether I am doing this right.

When I was a travel blogger, people were obsessed with stats and rankings. It was not my favorite part of it! I check once in a while but it’s not my number one priority. I mostly use GA.

I usually don’t check my rankings because I just find that it depresses me when numbers don’t do what I want them to. I’d rather be blissfully ignorant and feel good about my interactions on my blog. I had never heard of that Alexa rank thing. I glanced at it and … yeah, it depressed me. LOL! šŸ™‚

I check my wordpress stats maybe once every two weeks, but I keep an eye on it at the end of each month. I’m not very good with analytics but it is something I’m currently trying to learn and familiarize myself with.

I usually check my stats daily but only to see how I’m doing. I don’t stress about the numbers like I used to. However, I’d love to know how to analyze the data to make changes. Right now, I just don’t have the time to figure all of that out.

WOW! You’ve really gone into detail with these stats! Very impressive! I don’t have the time to do any of that, but I can understand being nerdy about this. Lol.

I just happen to notice my page views when I open up my dashboard to create a new post. (I use the Blogger platform.) I can see the views for each post right next to the title, on the dashboard list.

I do need to have a lot of page views, as I participate in blog tours. But I don’t really obsess over them.

Thanks for sharing your detailed answer! And thanks for commenting on my own BBH post!! Have a GREAT week!! <3 šŸ™‚

Honestly, I don’t care much about pageviews, though I’ve started to note down the WordPress statistics by month since I moved to see if there are any patterns to my posting/views. I think Google Analytics demographics wise is more for businesses rather than a blogger doing it for fun, but I do use it to get my unique views a month.

    • Gayathri

I do a similar graph with Google Analytics data. Just for fun, just like you said.
