Mood swings and blue days: Sunday Musings #110

How do you know if a mood swing is just a mood swing or something more than that? This week was not a great one, because mood swings.

I got almost nothing done nor did I want to. I just wanted to curl up binging on Netflix or sleep. And when I did actually pushed myself to do something, I found it real hard to focus and then I gave up.

I was just chalking it up to “a phase” but then a friend asked me to note down my mood swings and if it was becoming a pattern of some kind, because there has been a quite a few of them in the recent weeks. (Yes, I have some smart friends!)

So I have started to track my mood every day in my calendar since then. Fingers crossed, I will update you guys soon on how that goes. Anyway guys, mental health matters!

What I read this week

This was not a great reading week either, as I mentioned already. But on Tuesday I decided to do nothing but read.

I picked out Juniper Lemon’s Happiness Index by Julie Israel, because it was on my mobile and I didn’t have to move from my bed.

I really liked this one and I think it will be a great book for someone who is grieving over the loss of their beloved ones. It was deeper than the YA book it appears to be. I will try to get a review out soon.

I have started reading Surrounded by Idiots by Thomas Erikson, a non fiction about understanding people and trying to interact with others better. I am enjoying it as of now, fingers cross.

What I watched this week

I finished watching the Korean drama series “Romance is a bonus book.

I loved that it is set in a publishing house, the male lead is a writer/author and almost every character loved books and reading.

I also started watching Chilling adventures of Sabrina Season 4. And I am on the fence about it. I liked it but it seemed like an anthology. I love (some of) the characters so much that I could overlook most of the cons. Sadly, another good series that ends in 2021!

I hope this week has been better for you, Gayathri. It can be more than unsettling going through something like that. It sounds like you have a great group of friends looking up for you.

Sabrina is already on season 4?! I watched the first season when it came out. I hadn’t realized so much time had passed.

I hope you are enjoying the weekend. Take care of yourself.

Mood swings can be very confusing! I feel bad for my hubby when I get stuck in the back and forth. It doesn’t feel good any time it happens. Hope you can sort out and cope with your situation in a satisfying way!

Your post is so relatable. February is usually a tough month for me. The cold and the grey skies suck the life out of me! Add to that the pandemic – blah! Hopefully, Spring will arrive soon

Yes, now that you have mentioned February is weird.

Oh Gayathri, you are the third person, upon whose blog I have read the struggle being felt by people recently. I too was at work earlier this week and some of the actors there were expressing the same. We are all feeling like we cannot be bothered. We have lack of energy, curiosity and passion and when we feel like that it is hard. Many of us are still in lockdown and so we cannot go anywhere, meet friends, family or lovers. There are no beautiful coffee shops to sit and debate the philosophy of life in…it is all very weird. Here is hoping that you are able to shake the moods and find passion for life again, very soon. Be safe.

    lots of love T.B.C… xxx

I’m sorry about the mood swings. I do hope tracking gives you some answers. When I have mood swings I try to force myself to watch TV or read and it never works. Mainly because I can’t concentrate on anything when I feel that way. I do hope you will find the best way for you to deal with this. Many hugs.

I hope this week is a better one for you.

I agree that mental health awareness is very important. Have you tried meditation? I usually feel more relaxed after doing it.

Hope you have a good week!

Keeping track of your mood swings sounds like a good plan. I am a believer in how awareness can help us control and change things. Good luck!

Oh yes – I think tracking your mood swings is an excellent idea. I’ve found that certain foods really impact on my general mood – dairy makes me anxious and depressed, while too much sugar makes me bad-tempered. But it took me YEARS to figure out this stuff! Best of luck with tracking your moods and I hope you feel a lot better soon:)).

So sorry that you didn’t have a good week, but I do believe it’s a step in the right directions to acknowledge and accept it. And that you discuss it with friends and try to find solutions.

I will take a look at Juniper Lemon’s Happiness Index. Love the title.

Good luck with our upcoming week. Take care of yourself.
