This week could have been ‘jus nother one’ but for something we found yesterday. We hunted down the couch like the one in the TV series Friends!
My friends and I are currently working on something ‘not so serious’ and we needed a hangout spot and this is where we ended. We literally didn’t get off this very very comfortable couch for more than four hours!
Now we know why the Friends’ characters spent such long time on such a couch!
And then I hopped off to my UAE book club meeting! I loved my ladies, especially when we get all passionate about things we care about AKA books and writing.
I can’t wait to meet them again, soon!
What I read this week
Remember me complaining about my reading speed, or the lack of, last week? I am feeling better now, after ranting about it to everyone I personally know, blogger friends and even to other bookstagrammers.
And also may be because I redeemed myself by reading two more books this week and they are:
- Queenie by Candice Carty-Williams
- The Mystery of the Blue Train by Agatha Christie
And I liked both of them, one more than the other though. So stick around until I finally post their reviews here.
What I watched this week
I watched very little TV last week, not that I used the time (gained by avoiding it) productively anywhere else. But hey, I tried!
I watched this old 1991 movie called Cube, because someone recommended it. And I liked it.
I also have started with Jessica Jones and am taking real slow AKA not binging on it. I will definitely finish it this week.

I wish it wasn’t as hard to keep up with each other as adults. Do you ever feel friendships become more difficult to maintain as we grow into adults?
After so many cancellations, I caught up with some of my friends yesterday and I can’t believe how three hours just flew away. We discussed from the disaster that Game of Thrones’ last season to what we will be doing for the next year’s literature festival.
Of course we dissected each other’s current reads and shared more recommendations – you know just bookworm things!
Anyway here is another interesting conversations I had with fellow bloggers last week about wordpress followers. You know I have been blogging for quite a while here right? But you will be shocked to know my follower count. It is so few I don’t even wanna mention it. Yes, I am not thrilled, but the others were shocked! Yes it is that low.
So help me understand how to gain more followers on WordPress. And if you had not hit the follow button on my blog yet, do it right away.

What I read this week
This week has been a mess of sorts in terms of my reading. I have three books that I have left halfway and completed just one of them, that a children classic. Now I need to figure it out before it turns out into a reading slump, right?

I finished reading Charlotte’s web by E. B. White. Can you believe I have never even heard of this book until it was chosen to be the BOTM of the ClassicsNChristie book club?
What I watched this week
Is it just me or Big Little Lies was not all that great? I mean I enjoyed watching it but I never felt invested in any of the characters and felt utterly annoyed at every single one of them. While, I agree their acting was brilliant but I guess ‘meh’ to everything else about it.
I watched Murder Mystery with Jennifer Aniston and Adam Sandler and I really liked. Cheesy dialogues, a cliched Christie-sque set up and murders to solve – I mean, what is not to like!
I also caught up on a few episodes of Good girls season two and that, I truly loved and felt invested in. I might binge the rest this week. Have you watched it?

The holy month of Ramadan is coming to an end and that means we have a week long holiday starting today. Initially I had planned to take a trip back home to India during the holidays, but then I almost had a heart attack just seeing the sky rocketed ticket prices. So now I will have to find things to do at home and about.
Not that it is very difficult but the fast approaching summer calls in for a quick holiday as a last hurrah (or not). So we are taking another beach staycation for three days. I will share more details in my next post.
Since this was a sudden plan I am yet to pack and there are a lot of things on my to do list for the day because we are leaving tomorrow at the dawn. So let’s get on with it, okay?
Quick May’19 updates
- May’19 proved to be a great month in terms of my reading habits and I read about eight books which is like the best in since ages. And unsurprisingly, I read so many good ones at that.
- Since we kinda expected the temperature to rise up sooner than it supposed to, we hit the beach more than what we do usually.
- I think watching the entire Game of Thrones in less than three weeks should count for something right? So ya, I did that!
Between the TV marathon and reading good books, with occasional beach trips I think my May’19 was more spectacular than I would have imagined.

Imagine Winterfell from Game of Thrones, where everyone is wearing fur coats, there is snow everywhere and then they keep saying the winter was coming as if it is not at all cold then. Well that is what we are doing in Dubai, except with summer.
It is so hot at 100 F even in the mornings and the poor humidity is taking a toll as well. But here we are in the spring season still and the real summer is not even here. YET.
So we decided to remind ourselves that it is still spring and took a trip to the beach. It is a good thing that we have so many beaches around Dubai.
What I read this week
After a few weeks of over achieving in terms of reading, I am back to the old pace of one book a week. I know I could have read more but deciding which book to read is a nightmare when you are mood reader.
I read A Very Large Expanse of Sea by Tahereh Mafi, my first by the author, and I enjoyed it so much. I will probably post up a review soon enough. Well, that goes another letter on my A-Z reading Challenge 2019. How are you faring on it?
What I watched this week
Surprisingly I didn’t watch much on Netflix this week. And it was not even a deliberate attempt.
I tried watching White Gold season 2 and got bored of it soon enough.
I watched Coraline this week and rewatched How to train a Dragon last night. Loved them both totally.

- I have been on a not so active attempt to read more translated works these days. I could not have read this Book Riot article on how a literary collective is focusing on translating 100 Indian Classics to English. Check this out.
- What felt like a useless piece of advice until you actually tried it on Reddit contains too many gems to not share with you. Be nice and share it with someone else, now.

Happy Mother’s Day! I hope you wished your mother. If you are a mother yourself I hope you got a day off for yourself and your family treated you special today! I will be calling my mother soon as this post goes up.
And on the other news, the summer is already here and the temperature has started to shoot up slowly. It seems like the days are never ending, and it is not dark even until 7 PM, which is weird. And it can go only worse from here.
What I read this week
May has been treating my reading habits quite well. I read four books as on date this month and surprisingly I didn’t hate them. Okay I liked all of them and that is quite shocking right? Yay to May!
What I watched this week
You all, I finally caught up with the world and binge watched the entire Game of thrones series! Needless to say I love it and I can’t wait to see how it pans out further.
As every one else and their mother, I have several theories on that and won’t be surprised if all my theories turn out to be wrong.
