Post COVID Trip to India: Sunday Musings #113

Y’all, I have some exciting news from my side. I am going from Dubai to India tomorrow after exactly a year.

I have not met my family in a year, obviously thanks to the COVID and it has been a tough year. This is the longest I have gone without traveling anywhere, like rest of the world.

I have taken my PCR test yesterday and I will have to submit the result when I check in. I hear that there will be another test as soon as I land in India. And there might be a fourteen day home quarantine, if the results come out as negative.

How has your week been? When was the last time you traveled out from your city? How strict are your COVID related rules? Let us talk. Click To Tweet

I am hoping that things will work out smoothly. I will keep you updated with the formalities as well.

I am excited guys, and I promise I will be posting on my usual schedule.

What I read this week

I am currently reading two books and I plan to finish both of them in a day or two.

  • Before the Coffee Gets Cold by Toshikazu Kawaguchi
  • Beach Read by Emily Henry

Have you read either of these books? How did you like them?

What I watched this week

This may come a bit odd but this week was the first time ever I saw the classic, The Godfather. And I loved it. I had read the whole series by Mario Puzo more than a decade ago, and I remember loving it.

A while ago I stumbled upon Moxie by Jennifer Mathieu and I enjoyed reading it. And imagine my surprise when I saw it on Netflix of all places! I had to watch it, and guess what? I enjoyed it, even though it was not an exact adaptation of the book, (and that is for good IMHO).

I also watched the Crew and Instant Family on Netflix and I didnt like them much.

February’21 updates: Sunday Musings #112 monthly wrap

February’21 was not a great month for me. Like someone commented on my blog earlier, it is the month’s fault. After all the excitement and cheers of New Year and January, February kinda fizzles out.

Well, that and the blue mood swings that snuck out of nowhere.

So how has your month been? What did you do during and what did you read? Did you do a book haul? Let's talk. Click To Tweet

Enough about that, can we talk of things that happened during the month of February’21 quickly?

Quick February’21 updates

  • I volunteered at the Emirates Literature Festival 2021 in February. In fact, I look forward to this book event every year and I am glad that the dreaded COVID didn’t spoilt this one as well.
  • I got my second and final dosage of the COVID vaccine. As on date, I am fully protected (or as much as I can be), given it is past 21 days from the final dosage.
  • The second part of the month was a blur to me and it was filled with mood swings and melancholy. I am glad it is done with now.

What I read this month

This was not a great reading month for me, due to the above mentioned mental health issues. But here are the books that I read anyway.

  • Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn
  • Juniper Lemon’s Happiness Index by Julie Israel
  • My Sister, the Serial Killer by Oyinkan Braithwaite

What I watched this month

Here is a quick recap of the series and movies I watched during the month of February’21.

  • Parks and Recreation S2 & S3 – I keep waiting for it to get better.
  • Romance is a bonus book – A K-drama revolving around books and the publishing world
  • The Chilling adventures of Sabrina S4 – Didn’t love it as much as I did the other seasons.
  • Dhrishyam 2 – A Malayalam film sequel that is based on the movie/book Suspect X
  • The Girl in the train – A terrible Hindi remake of the movie, based on the book.
  • Ginny & Georgia – This was a fun watch for Gilmore girls fan but a darker version.

The one that flew past: Sunday Musings #111

The last week has not been any better for my mental health. I have not been restless and not able to concentrate on anything. Add in the fatigue and sleep. And there goes my week.

I wish it were more productive and interesting, at least for the sake of talking about it here. But no, it didn’t.

What I read this week

I read My Sister, the Serial Killer by Oyinkan Braithwaite this week and I have a lot to talk about it. Do wait for my review of the book this week.

I am currently reading The Boy Who Steals Houses by C. G. Drews and continuing to read Surrounded by Idiots by Thomas Erikson from last week.

What I watched this week

I started watching Ginny & Georgia on Friday and hope to finish it through the weekend.

I was expecting to see a glossy version of the superficial Gilmore girls but was surprised to see how deep it turned out to be.

In an attempt to get off the bed, I watched Parks and Recreation S3 in bits all through the week. I keep hearing it gets better, but it hasn’t yet. Have you watched it?

Mood swings and blue days: Sunday Musings #110

How do you know if a mood swing is just a mood swing or something more than that? This week was not a great one, because mood swings.

I got almost nothing done nor did I want to. I just wanted to curl up binging on Netflix or sleep. And when I did actually pushed myself to do something, I found it real hard to focus and then I gave up.

I was just chalking it up to “a phase” but then a friend asked me to note down my mood swings and if it was becoming a pattern of some kind, because there has been a quite a few of them in the recent weeks. (Yes, I have some smart friends!)

So I have started to track my mood every day in my calendar since then. Fingers crossed, I will update you guys soon on how that goes. Anyway guys, mental health matters!

What I read this week

This was not a great reading week either, as I mentioned already. But on Tuesday I decided to do nothing but read.

I picked out Juniper Lemon’s Happiness Index by Julie Israel, because it was on my mobile and I didn’t have to move from my bed.

I really liked this one and I think it will be a great book for someone who is grieving over the loss of their beloved ones. It was deeper than the YA book it appears to be. I will try to get a review out soon.

I have started reading Surrounded by Idiots by Thomas Erikson, a non fiction about understanding people and trying to interact with others better. I am enjoying it as of now, fingers cross.

What I watched this week

I finished watching the Korean drama series “Romance is a bonus book.

I loved that it is set in a publishing house, the male lead is a writer/author and almost every character loved books and reading.

I also started watching Chilling adventures of Sabrina Season 4. And I am on the fence about it. I liked it but it seemed like an anthology. I love (some of) the characters so much that I could overlook most of the cons. Sadly, another good series that ends in 2021!

Happy valentine’s day!: Sunday Musings #109

Happy Valentine’s day to everyone! I hope everyone (with or without a partner, currently) has a fabulous day. As I was telling someone else, today would be a great day to give yourself a treat and do all the self love that you deserve.

I am glad to announce that I finally got my second dosage of COVID vaccination earlier this week. And the second dosage administration was more streamlined than the first and we were out of the vaccination centre within 10 minutes.

What I read this week

Last week I spent a lot of time trying to choose what to read but at the end I didn’t read much.

But I did finish a book from one of my favorite authors, Gillian Flynn – finally.

Sharp Objects has been sleeping on my bookshelves forever and I am glad I picked at least now. AND I LIKED IT. I will have to post a review pretty soon.

What I watched this week

I am so glad decided to give another chance to Parks and Recreation. And am at the end of the season 2 and I am finally getting into it.

I also started watching the popular K drama “Romance is a bonus book”, and so far it is quite interesting.
