UAE COVID Vaccine update: Sunday Musings #106

I am glad to say I got my first dose of COVID Vaccination done this week and I have not been feeling any different since then. I was warned of some headache or other flu vaccine kinda symptoms, but fortunately I didn’t have any of those either.

My second dosage would on second week of February (21 to 28 days from the first one) and I can’t wait to have that one too.

It is disheartening to hear that people, even my own friends, are hesitant to have the vaccine even when they are free here in UAE. Apparently, they want to wait for more information and time “because these vaccines came too early”. Obviously they came early, because the scientists are busting their asses to get it done for us. Sigh.

As much as I want to not comment about it, it is getting really hard not to.

What I read this week

This week was fairly good to me in terms of reading, though that did stop me from doing other things on my list.

I finished

  • The Vanishing Half by Brit Bennett
  • Duke and I, The (Bridgertons, #1) by Julia Quinn

And I am currently reading Where’d You Go, Bernadette? by Maria Semple, which has been on my TBR for a long time. As I promised to myself earlier this year, I would focus on clearing my TBR shelf rather than adding more to it, so that is what I am doing for now.

What I watched this week

Last week I watched Wonder woman 1984. Despite a few glaring plot holes, I actually enjoyed watching Wonder woman and Gal Gadot. Yay for more female filmmakers and superheroes.

Paranoid on Netflix was another series that I watched this week and it was meh at the best. I didn’t enjoy it as much as I wanted to.

What are you guys watching this week?

G, I’m glad to hear about your positive experience with the COVID vaccine. I am looking forward to getting it, but I am not expecting it anytime soon. I was initially hesitent about the vaccine and how quickly it was developed, but talking to one of my friends who is familiar with the research used to create the vaccine made me feel better about it.

Despite all the negative reviews, I still want to see Wonder Woman 1984. I’m upset that HBOMax wouldn’t work on Roku, so I didn’t get to watch it before it was taken off the app. This week I finally watched the live action Mulan and really loved it, so I wonder how I will having similar feelings about WW1984.

Yes, I had to have a friend explain it to me too. Thank God for smarter friends right?

Yay for getting your COVID vaccine and I’m glad you haven’t had any side effects. I’ve heard of a few from people around me who have gotten it but all pretty mild thankfully. I’m not in an eligible group yet but as soon as I am I’m signing up. I understand what you mean about not commenting but yes it’s definitely hard. I hope you have a great week!

Oh it’s great you were able to get your vaccine! I would get it if I could but I’m not in an early group and they are prioritizing them. I may not be able to get one until summer. Luckily I stay home. You are reading some great books. I enjoyed In a Holidaze.

Glad you got your first dose! mRNA is really cool. Lots and lots of research has lead to this vaccine being available. I hope I can get vaccinated by April–patiently waiting for my turn.

We didn’t get the MRNA one, that is only for the chronic and older patients. We did get Sinopharm one.

I doubt I am very high up the list for a Covid jab, because here in the UK they prioritising the elderly, the vulnerable, and NHS and other care workers. Being young, fit and having already had Covid probably makes me near the bottom of the list, but I will have it when it is my turn. 😅

As for my viewing, this week I finished watching Netflix’s travel, nature and health documentary, Down to Earth with Zac Efron and continued watching series 2 of the supernatural drama, A Discovery of Witches. 🧙‍♀️

Take care and happy reading! 😃

The ones who have already had COVID have some protection via antibodies available in their body, so even here the rules are same.

My husband is in a trial for a Covid vaccine that’s not out yet and he didn’t have any side effects from the first shot either, though he could be in the placebo group. We, of course, don’t know. I’d rather have the vaccine and be able to live a more normal life than not. I feel that they are safe. My only worry is that they won’t cover all the different strains emerging.

Yes the different strains are not currently covered, except for the UK variant. But I heard even if it doesn’t completely protect from the new variants, it definitely reduces the effects if we are vaccinated.

Congrats on your vaccine, I’m glad there were no side effects. I don’t know how long I’ll have to wait for my turn to happen. It’s good to read your own TBR, isn’t it ? That’s what I’m doing this year and I’m happy every time I see that shelf shrink ! Have a great week 🙂

I’ll be honest, when I first heard of the vaccine I wasn’t 100% convinced. However, my aunt, who works with COVID patients, reassured me and told the entire family about what it does and what it’s made of, so now I can’t wait for the new round of vaccinations to start here in Italy and get my own. There’s talk that us younger folks have to wait until the end of February to get ours, but we’ll see. I’m excited. I’m so happy you got yours and hopefully this marks the beginning of us humans getting rid of this pandemic before the year ends. Have a great week <3

I am glad that you had someone who talked sense and that you were sensible enough to understand that. I hope more people do that.

How wonderful that you’ve already received your first dose! Both my husband and my mother have received theirs but I am not eligible yet. I will definitely be there just as soon as I am able. But I see so many comments of those who say there is no way they will get it. They don’t trust it. So disheartening when it could keep us all safe(r).

I, too, am trying to read more from my own shelves lately. Its a great feeling to read all the books I’ve been putting off for a while.

It is disheartening to see people say no when they are privileged to get some.

There are a lot of people in my country that are hesitant to take the vaccine too. Many just want to wait to see how those who get the vaccines early fare. In the area I live, the demand is high and the supply low. The rollout for getting the vaccines hasn’t been ideal. The county announces there will be 10,000 appointments available at noon for six sites around the county and they fill up in 32 minutes. And then the people who were unable to get appointments are upset. I am honestly not sure how I got so lucky getting in and where I did for my first dose. Luck, I guess. I will be getting my second shot the middle of next month.

I am glad you enjoyed Wonder Woman 1984. I agree with you that it wasn’t perfect, but I did enjoy it. I really like Gal Gadot.

I hope you have a great week. Happy reading!

Yes I agree that we are lucky and privileged to get the doses at all. I wish people were more accepting towards science.

I’m glad you were side effect- free with the vaccine, that’s great news! I know a few people have been having the sore arm and whatnot, and there have been some serious reactions in some, but I feel like that’s true of most vaccines? and I’m a little worried about vaccine hesitancy too. My own mom is skeptical and she’s high risk, I’ve been trying to get her to understand the benefits of it.

Thanks for the blogosphere links, I need to check those out. 🙂

I am sure those side effects are just normal as the other flu shots.
