Terrible summer is here!: Sunday Musings #122

The dreadful summer is here. And I know I have been talking about it for a long time now. But here it is really now. And it has been horrible.

Here is a news article on how it is going to be the hottest summer(50+C or 122+F) in the Middle East. In the last two weeks, UAE had recorded 51C thrice.

Well, we are feeling it already, even though it is barely summer, which is usually around July – August. And even though the temperature says 35- 40C, the feel like has been 48-52C.

Thankfully I live in an apartment that has about 7-8 large trees around, so we don’t feel it all the time. But we have started switching on our air-cons during the day as well.

On other news, as I mentioned in my previous post I have been going on walks in the nights. And I have been posting on photos of my walks on Instagram stories. Do check them out if you want to have a glimpse of my city.

What I read this week

I have been The Cousins by Karen M McManus this week. And it is my last desperate attempt to kick away the reader’s slump. I can see barely working, though.

Fingers crossed.

What I watched this week

We caught up two new movies at the Cinemas this week and it has been almost a year since we went to such close and confined spaces.

But fortunately, the social distancing restrictions were pretty much well maintained and my nervousness eased up quickly.

  • Conjuring – 3 – it was a bit of disappointment when you compare it with the other movies in the franchise.
  • A quiet place 2 – I liked it. And it was more of a thriller than the Conjuring 3 movie.

Let us chat

How has your week been? What are you doing these summer days? Has the weather been kinder to you? Let’s talk.

  1. Sophia @ Bookwyrming Thoughts

Holy shit that’s HOT. I hope you’re staying cool and drinking plenty of water! It’s been getting warm here as well, though the humidity makes it feel worse than it probably is.

I hope you’ll get out of the reading slump soon! I always hate when that happens.

  2. Maureen @ Maureen's Books

OMG.. I can’t even imagine those kind of temperatures. I hope you’ll be able to manage those temperatures a little.
Have a great week and happy reading.

  3. Lady Tessa

That is crazy hot. I don’t know how you don’t have the AC on all the time. It gets very hot here too but not quite that hot. Hope you enjoy The Cousins. I did ❤️.

  4. Molly @ Molly's Book Nook

Oh man, that is HOT. It’s warming up here, but not that warm lol We have started turning on the AC though. I watched The Conjuring 3 too and it was…not good. The story was pretty dumb tbh. I want to watch A Quiet Place 2 still! Hope you have a great week!

  5. Literary Feline

I hope you are finding ways to stay cool. The heat came be miserable, I know. I am glad you were able to go to the cinema. I haven’t been in over a year and likely won’t go anytime soon. With restrictions lifting quite a bit next week, I have a feeling the theaters will not be social distancing anymore. I’m just not ready for that. I hope you enjoy The Cousins. Take care, Gayathri. Have a great week!

  6. Deb Nance at Readerbuzz

Gracious alive! That’s very hot. I’m not sure I’d survive going outside in that heat.

I keep thinking I’m going to post to Instagram, but then I forget all about it. I really need to get busy and do that.

    Please stay cool.

  7. Yvonne

We finally made it back to the theater and saw both of those movies, too. They were good. I thought the first A Quiet Place was better, but I did enjoy this one too.

I hope you have a great week!

  8. Victoria A Hamel

And people talk about how the ‘dry heat’ isn’t that bad. pfft! I’m glad you are able to take walks in the evening. Thanks for the blog links- I need to read those blogs!

  9. Tanya @ Girl Plus Books

Oh my goodness, those temperatures! The 90’s is bad enough, but when it feels like 115? Nope! That’s when I have to stay indoors. I thought Florida was bad but that’s even worse! Hooray for going back to the theater! I haven’t done that yet but hopefully soon.

  10. M. Ravenel

Thanks for visiting my blog! Your summers look almost identical to mine. It’s so sweltering!

The grammar mistakes post was very helpful. Thanks for sharing!

  11. Laurel-Rain Snow

I do hate the heat! Air conditioning here is not good…it is noisy and the fans blow too strongly, so I try to get out of the way, lol.

I haven’t been to a theater since way before the Pandemic…I enjoy watching things online. But…I’ve heard good things about A Quiet Place.

Thanks for visiting my blog, and have a good week.

  12. jessicabookworm

I am sorry to hear has been so hot for you, Gayathri! 🥵 We’ve enjoyed a gloriously summer and warm week here in the UK, with temperatures between 20-24ºC. ☀ Otherwise it has been a tough week for me, with work, fatigue and anxiety, so I have mainly too solace in comfort TV! 📺

Take care, stay cool and happy reading in the coming week 🙂

  13. Greg

I love summer but I hate how how it gets. It’s been hot here but not as hot as you’re getting. I hope you’re able to stay as cool as possible!

Hope you like the Cousins too! I enjoyed it, not sure if it’s my favorite of her books but it kept me entertained lol.
