COVID panic returns: Sunday Musings #107

Over the last week, the number of COVID cases have shot through the roof at the UAE – about 5000 cases each day. Have been hearing that it maybe because the Government had not stopped the incoming flights, especially the ones from the UK as soon as their cases went up.

Anyway, the UAE is encouraging people to take the vaccinations innovatively. Some restaurants are offering discounts if we have fully vaccinated. But as of now, we are back to the dire situation and we may have to get into the second phase of the lockdown. Fingers crossed.

What are your plans for the week? What was the last non fiction you read? What are you currently watching? Let's talk. Share on X

Despite these, I am so excited for the coming week and especially for the weekend. I will be volunteering at the Emirates Lit Fest 2021 over the coming and the next weekend.

I have to take the COVID tests over the week as a part of it. I will get my final course of vaccination during the week starting the 7th, so maybe I will get to skip the second round of tests for the Litfest.

What I read this week

Last week was another good reading week. I finished two books and I enjoyed both of them immensely.

  • Where’d You Go, Bernadette by Maria Semple
  • Get A Life, Chloe Brown by Talia Hibbert

I am in the mood of reading some non fiction over the week. What are your suggestions?

What I watched this week

I am back to watching my guilty pleasure House MD, on Prime. I have watched most of the House MD over the years, but I am re-watching the episodes and currently on season 2.

Also I have started watching BBC’s Luther, a British cop thriller starring Idris Alba.

From the Insta-world

Here is what I posted on Instagram during the week. Give me a follow, will you?

  1. This one step forward and two steps back stuff with Covid can be quite frustrating. Sounds like you have a bit to look forward to, though. Have a wonderful week!

  2. Sorry to hear that you are having a Covid boom, and all due to my selfish countrymen travelling to get some sun.
Mexican Gothic has been on my radar for a while but I think I will save it till I am in the mood for a slow burn, thanks for the review.

  3. ugh I hope the vaccination stops this COVID19 for good! I read about 50% of Where’d You Go, Bernadette and then got distracted with something else. I wanted to go back to it so I’m glad to hear is good!

  4. I’m sorry to hear the virus cases are up. The numbers are up here too but they don’t seem to be doing any kind of lockdown. I haven’t been able to get the vaccine yet. I’m hoping it will be available to us soon.

I used to love House. It was one of my favorite shows. Hugh Laurie is so good.

I hope you have a great week!

  5. Our cases are up here also but people around here don’t seem to take it seriously. We may have a lock down soon too. I;m rewatching Grey’s Anatomy and crying a lot. LOL Be safe:)

  6. House is a fun show to watch – well, sometimes really gross – but I love the character. Hope more people get vaccinated. Your area seemed to have a pretty good handle on things – well, as good as you can, I guess. Fingers-crossed things get under more control.

  7. Sorry to hear about the big rise in cases. Numbers are going up where I am, too. It’s so discouraging. Plus, I am not eligible for the vaccine yet. But my husband gets his second dose this week so that much is good. I hope you find some great nonfiction to enjoy this week.

  8. Hi Gayathri! πŸ‘‹ With lockdown still in place here in the UK my only plans in the coming week are going to work and then coming home again! 😏 Although that does give me lots of time for reading, so silver lining and all. The last non-fiction I read was my new cookbook: The Green Roasting Tin by Rukmini Iyer and I just finished watching series two of the supernatural drama, A Discovery of Witches. πŸ§™β€β™€οΈ

Take care and happy reading in the coming week. πŸ™‚

  9. I love nonfiction! I really enjoy reading about royalty from everywhere and history in general. I recommend anything by Alison Weir or Robert K. Massie. I also love Jeff Guinn’s biography of Jim Jones. Stay safe and happy Sunday! πŸ˜€

  10. Oh I’m sorry to hear that! Cases going up is something you never want to hear of course. That’s interesting to hear about restaurants doing that!

  11. Covid cases have been spiking everywhere. I wish more people would take this seriously.

Emirates Lit Fest sounds like a big convention. Is it going to be virtual this year or in person?

I need to sit down and binge watch Luther. I heard it was really good.

Hope you have an awesome week! Stay safe!
