A-Z Bookish Questions: Tag

It has been a while since I did a bookish tag on my blog and that is when I stumbled upon the A-Z bookish questions tag on Youtube. The tag is pretty simple. I get to answer questions that begin with each letter of the alphabet.

Sounds easy, right? No.

Can you answer these A-Z bookish questions tag? What do you think about my answers? What is your worst bookish habit? Let us chat. Click To Tweet

My mind went completely blank and I somehow couldn’t remember even the last book I read. Sigh. Thankfully Goodreads came to my rescue.

A-Z Bookish questions Tag

Otherwise I am sure I never would have these bookish questions for another ten days. So let us get on with this okay?

Author you’ve read the most books from:

I just headed to Goodreads and checked out my most read authors who unsurprisingly turned to be Sidney Sheldon, followed by Jeffrey Archer.
I had a phase when I read only their books. Glad I came out of it and became more open to other authors.

Best Sequel Ever:

I usually don’t read series. But I think the last series that I read completely and enjoyed was the Clifton Chronicles by Jeffrey Archer.

Currently Reading:

Moxie by Jennifer Mathieu

Drink of Choice While Reading:

I wouldn’t dare to eat or drink while reading.

E-reader or Physical Book?

Of late I am picking E books over physical books. I moved thrice in the last few years and I lost so many books in the process. And I am now afraid to start collecting again.

Fictional Character You Probably Would Have Actually Dated In High School:

I had a crush on Cross De Lena from The Last Done by Mario Puzo. I am afraid no one would remember the Mafia Don anymore. (Hint: He is like the Godfather).

Glad You Gave This Book A Chance:

Recently I read a translated work of Korean fiction by Han Kang called the Vegetarian. I can safely say it was pretty weird!

Hidden Gem Book:

Pin now A-z Bookish questions Tag

I found this gem out of accident and I ended up reading the whole series. I think everyone should give it a chance The Little Lady Agency by Hester Browne.

Important Moment in your Reading Life:

I think finding about Goodreads about 5 years ago must be it. I had been blogging for a while then but still I wanted a place to find more books.

Just Finished:

Just finished Nordic King by Karina Halle as part of my A- Z reading challenge for 2018.

Kinds of Books You Won’t Read:

I rarely read Fantasy and Sci-fi. I am not averse to them, but I don’t feel inclined to pick them up easily.

A-z Bookish questions Tag Pin me

Longest Book You’ve Read:

I think it should be ‘Gone with the Wind’ by Margret Mitchell. I have ‘IT’ by Stephen King on my TBR for a long time now but the mere size of it is intimidating me.

Major book hangover because of:

I usually have a hangover for most of the books. I typically take half the day off before I start another one. Alias Grace by Margaret Atwood gave me a major book hangover. I think I took 2-3 days to recover and then I jumped into watching the Netflix adaptation.

elgeewrites A-Z Bookish Questions: Tag emotions

Number of Bookcases You Own:

I have 3 book shelves currently, each at a different city that I call home. But as I said I lost quite a number of books and I have almost stopped buying physical books.

One Book You Have Read Multiple Times:

A-z Bookish questions Tag Pin it

I rarely re-read books except for the classics. I think the last book I re-read was ‘And then there were none‘ by Agatha Christie

Preferred Place To Read:

I love reading during my commute, so that used to be the train. But now I read a lot in my bed, just before catching my beauty sleep.

Quote that inspires you/gives you all the feels from a book you’ve read:

This is a hard one, given that I am obsessed about quotes, especially from books.

I love Calvin and Hobbes by Bill Watterson and not a week goes by without me quoting something from his comics. I have so many of them that I love and am sharing here some of my favorites.

Reality continues to ruin my life.

It’s not denial. I’m just selective about the reality I accept.

I’m killing time while I wait for life to shower me with meaning and happiness

Reading Regret:

I don’t think I regret reading any book, even the ones that I hated or DNF-ed (rarely). But I do regret that I didn’t read some of those childhood classics when I was younger, as reading them as an adult hasn’t been the same.

Bookish question pin me

Series You Started And Need To Finish(all books are out in series):

I don’t read books as a series, usually. On the rare occasion I do, I make sure all of the books in the series are already published. You know, waiting is for suckers. (Sorry, but not sorry)

Three of your All-Time Favorite Books:

As any book worm would, I am gonna whine that this is a hardest thing I have ever done, not literally. Yet I told you I would answer all the questions, so here I go:

  1. And then there were none by Agatha Christie
  2. And the Mountains Echoed by Khaled Hosseini
  3. The Book Thief by Markus Zusak

Unapologetic Fangirl For:

I totally have been adoring Khaled Hosseini and Gillian Flynn‘s writing for a while now.

Update: I literally fan-girled when I met Markus Zusak, Cassandra Clare, Holly Black et al in real life. Read more about it here!

elgeewrites A-Z Bookish Questions: Tag Glee fangirling gif

Very Excited For This Release More Than All The Others:

I do not follow book releases so seriously. I am more of a backlist reader and ARC reviewer

Worst Bookish Habit:

I can’t get myself to give up on books aka DNF easily, which means even if I don’t like a book I would struggle through it.

X Marks The Spot: Start at the top left of your shelf and pick the 27th book:

I don’t have many books on my physical book shelf. So I am gonna do the same with my Google Play which I totally depend on for reading my e-books.

So the 27th book is The Fourth Monkey Killer by J D Barker which I reviewed here.

Your latest book purchase:

The last book I bought was The Unexpected Everything by Morgan Matson, which turned to be too long for my taste.

Bookish question pin me

ZZZ-snatcher book (last book that kept you up WAY late)

I stayed up all night reading They both die at the end by Adam Silvera
But I am not sure if it was the last book that kept me up, I am just looking through Goodreads list for the answers. I am just guessing, so let me be please.

Sunday Musings #18: One With A Question – To Rant Or Not To

Hello friends

Do you remember me being obsessed with organization videos? I am out of it. I feel like I have seen every organization video out there and I can tell you everything you need to know about it. Oh, do I follow any of them? Absolutely not.

A friend from real life, you stumbled my blog (am lying I sent her the link WHEN SHE ASKED ME FOR IT) told me that I should be posting more posts with my personal thoughts and talk about them.

What do you guys say, is it alright to add in more thoughtful posts on relationships, adulthood, that may lean more than a bit on the rant side, in my book blog? Or should I have a different platform?

What I read this week:

elgeewrites Sunday Musings #18: One With A Question - To Rant Or Not To kitchen

The Kitchen  by Banana Yoshimoto

I am still reading this and I have not finished reading it.

What I watched this week:

I finally saw the Nun in Cinemas and it was not too gory. I didn’t love it but it was kinda okay-ish. Sorry am definitely not a good movie reviewer. I also saw two other regional movies on the cinemas (yes all this week) and there were pretty decent too.

elgeewrites Sunday Musings #18: One With A Question - To Rant Or Not To nun

On Netflix I watched

  • Chesapeake Shores – S1 & 2
  • Brooklyn 99 – re-runs S1

elgeewrites Sunday Musings #18: One With A Question - To Rant Or Not To chesapeake shores

And I kinda guessed that Chesapeake shores would be an adaptation and you know what? I was proved right.

On the blog

I made a repeat on last week success on my blog. Yes I posted 4 articles this week and I am feeling good about myself. If you have not checked it out yet, please do right away.

Around the blogosphere

I may or not have visited everyone’s blog but hey I tried my best to do it. I think I covered pretty much most of them. And here are picks for the week from the bookish blogger world.

Sunday Musings #16: One with a lot of YA and Pinterest-ing

Happy Sunday people!

I know for most of you Sunday is a week to relax and unwind. But for someone who lives at Dubai, Sunday is the day to get back to being busy. Which means Sunday is the new Monday. As I am writing this post, I have finished my breakfast and should be perfectly ready to hunt down the long to-do list in a minute. Or thirty.

You all know Megan from Gingermom Reads right? She has started this interesting  support group board for books bloggers on Pinterest. I am still bothering on chat with questions on how it works and what I can do with it. but I found enough bookish posts to keep my occupied for days. If you are interested, send a request to her.

What I read this week:

I am happy to announce that now I am finally part of the cool gang. Yes I have read the ‘To all the boys I have love before’ trilogy and saw the Netflix movie and I can safely say I liked them all.

What I watched this week:

And y’all I didn’t stop there, I went a bit crazy on how cute Noah Centineo is and I saw all his films that were on Netflix this week. Okay that didn’t help my reading/ blogging schedule. Yes that is three YA movies plus the usual stuff I watch anyway.

Spotlight Sunday: #05 One about Emirates Lit Fest 2018

One of the drawbacks of being a blogger who is not living in the USA/UK is that we do not get to do many of the book related things like meeting an author, attending a reading or even getting a signed copy. And that is why I have been on the cloud nine since week.

Fest

Ready for it?

I will be attending a literature festival next month right where I live (Dubai). And not only that, I will be an “insider”!! Okay I am exaggerating, but I will be an official volunteer for Emirates Literature Festival that will be happening from 1 to 10th March 2018 at Dubai.

About 175 authors will be participating in the event and I am so excited that I will get to see the likes of Shashi Tharoor, William Dalrymple, Anthony Horoatiz and Joe Hill (yes the Locke and Key fame and the son of STEPHEN KING).

I will keep updating you guys as and when I know more about the events. If you are from this side of the globe and planning to attend any of the sessions, do let me know.

Around the blogosphere

1) It is a common complaint in the book blogging community that reviews do not invoke as much engagement as the discussion post. Kristen puts in her perspective on the subject in her post.

2) Evelina published another awesome post in her newblogger series on blogging calendar and schedules. I am sure I will be taking some of her pointers and I think you should check it out too.

3) Have you ever tried having bookish conversation with a chat bot? Bookstormgirl tried it for us and the result is freakishly hilarious. She even shared the result with us.

4) I found about the demise of John Mahoney, who played Martin Crane of FRASIER through Shailaja’s post on how an actor’s death can affect a person.

Fest

5) Laura from Boats against the current post an interesting article on how to follow other blogs. Do you love discovering and following new blogs as much as I do then you should sign up for Bloggers’ Comment Junction here.

6) Can you tell me what is your favorite book? I am sure you need a minute or 60 to choose one. Chloe from Book Dragons attempts to reason out our behavior in her post.

7) Do extra blank pages in a book drive you crazy? I used to wonder why would they even want to waste papers like that. Until I found this page from Mental Floss.

Fest

8) Austine from Novel Knight came out with this fantabulous resource with The Book Community Media Dashboard. Go ahead add yours and find other lovely bloggers from the list.

9)  I stumbled upon this gem from Halsey about sexual abuse that moved me to tears.

10) There is a stereotype about book worms that are introverts. Is that true? I am not sure. I am stuck somewhere between being an introvert and not. I read this article from Thought Catalog that I was about to relate to so much. You might enjoy it as well.

On my blog

In case you missed any of me post this week, here is a quick recap just for you.

Review shots is gonna be monthly feature where I will be writing bite sized reviews of 3-4 books. Here is the second edition where I reviewed Herding Cats, Everyday Watercolor and Find Your Awesome: A 30-Day Challenge to Fall in Love with Your Playful, Imaginative & Colorful Self.

Book Tag: Are You Naughty or Nice on the Santa’s list?

I probably am the last person to do this ‘Naughty or nice’ tag but hey Santa has not visited yet, so technically I can still do this, can’t I? This is the perfect tag to spread the Christmas cheer and I am all excited to know if I am on the naughty list or nice list of bookish Santa.
Here are the 15 questions that the bookish Santa might be taking note before he could deliver his goodies.
Nice

1. Received an ARC and not reviewed it

This year I promised myself that I would be diligent and would not go ahead on a request spree on NG or Edelweiss. And I mostly kept it up. BUT, I still have a few ARCs to be reviewed that I received from the authors themselves and one each from NG and Edelweiss.
Nice

2. Have less than 60% feedback rating on Netgalley

As I mentioned earlier, I reduced my request rates. So I was pretty close to 80% feedback. But I  have been granted request to more books in the past week, so I am back to 56%.
Nice

3. Rated a book on Goodreads and promised a full review was to come on your blog (and never did)

I am so guilty. In fact, I have a shelf on my Goodreads just for this. But in my defense, I still promise I would.
Nice

4. Folded down the page of a book

Nope. Actually, I do not mind folding a book, highlighting or bookmarking at all (I know, gasp), I understand if you did. But I do not do it generally.
Nice

5. Accidentally spilled on a book

Yes. I spilled a bit of water on my copy of ‘The Inheritance of Loss’ while I was traveling in a train. Again in my defense, I just could not take my eyes off the book even for a minute to drink water and the train jolted suddenly.
Nice

6. DNF a book this year

I used to strive so hard to complete a book once I start it, even if I hate it all the way through. Among all the other changes, I decided I would quit reading if I am not happy with a book. But fortunately, I didn’t have to DNF a book this year.
Nice

7. Bought a book purely because it was pretty with no intention of reading it

Absolutely not. I would never do that. I read everything but I am very careful when I buy books, as I am still on a book ban. I have had to move twice in the past three years and I have learned my lessons on book hoarding. So if I won’t read it, I won’t buy it.
Nice

8. Read whilst you were meant to be doing something else (like homework)

Of course. I would be surprised only if anyone didn’t do this. I am sure Bookish Santa would definitely go lenient on me, and all the other book lovers who do that.
Nice

9. Skim read a book

Erm… Yes, there were a few books that were really not my type or/ and wasn’t into them, but I had to finish it anyway as I had to review them.
Nice

10. Completely missed your Goodreads goal

I am a strong believer in overachieving. That is why I kept my target low this year. And I completed the challenge and am moving forward already.
Nice

11. Borrowed a book and not returned it

None this year. But I do it once in a while when I meet my dearest friends back in India. They also have given up hinting me to return it. In fact, the entire Stephen King collection I have falls into this category. But hey, none this year.
Nice

12. Broke a book buying ban

Nope. I am being totally good on this part. Mainly because I had to lose several books when I had to move in the recent past and I promised I would reduce my book hauls to the minimum. Fortunately, or not, Dubai doesn’t have any economical bookshops and that helps me keep up the decision.
Nice

13. Started a review, left it for ages then forgot what the book was about

I did the opposite actually.
I loved The virgin suicides when I read it the first time years ago and I started a review and completely forgot about it. This year I reread the book and reviewed it here as I loved it as much as I did the first time.
Do I get brownie points for this?
Nice

14. Wrote in a book you were reading

Not on physical copies, but I have left loads of notes, highlights and make comments for reviewing on all my e-books. But I know that doesn’t count.
Nice

15. Finished a book and not added it to your Goodreads

I usually read the books fast when I am on a spree and I add them all together when I get back to the laptop. I hope I have not left out any book on the list.
Nice
So, on the whole, I am definitely on the Nice part of the nice-o-meter.
Nice

Yes, I am totally nice. Yes, I am.

Nice
I tag Anky and Carrie to continue this tag.
Anyone else who wants to be tagged on the Naughty or nice tag, please consider yourself tagged.

Merry Christmas people.
